An Electric Motor Stopped Working: What Could Cause it?
If an electric motor has failed in an industrial application, what are the most possible causes?
As ARC Systems tells us, some of the most common reasons for motor failure or damage include overheating or breakdown of motor insulation. This will occur if there is a voltage imbalance. Bearing failure or lack of lubrication could also result in overheating and subsequent motor failure.
If a motor binds up, it could be due to contamination that has occurred as a result of it’s setting. Excessive vibration or damaged parts due to mechanical overload could also be the reasons for motor failure. Be sure to consider all of these factors when installing or replacing motors in your application.
